Alternanthera (Alternanthera brasiliana) is an exotic, long-lived herbaceous plant or small shrub in the Amaranthaceae, usually 0.5–2m tall. It has purple-tinged foliage and small whitish flowers in dense clusters. It is also grown as an ornamental plant with many cultivars, and it can multiply by self-seeding and be propagated by cuttings. It is naturalised in parts of Australia and is considered an environmental weed in several jurisdictions.
